A Good Night’s Rest with Violet

I’m a Wisconsin Girl and last month we spoke of Spring seemingly right around the corner and now here in May, all is in full bloom. Things as our beautiful planet turns also seem to be heading into a direction of more normal, so to speak, days ahead.

However, life isn’t always easy and this past year or more we sometimes have more concerns and troubles than we usually would. When things are upside down, even the tiniest matters can feel more amplified, which brings me to the subject at hand…..getting a good night’s rest.

Sleep is mandatory for us and when we don’t get enough, life does seem a bit dimmer. So, what can we do about it? Here at Ann Kottler Home, we love creating perfect sleep sanctuaries for our clients. How do we do so?

We approach a client’s bedroom update with the intention of creating a relaxing sanctuary. More so now than ever, a good night’s rest is imperative in our busy lives.

The areas we evaluate to create a calm aesthetic include the following wish list:

Furniture
Bedding
Lighting
Window Treatments
Accent Pieces
Artwork
Rugs
Color

Having comfortable furniture, most importantly the mattress, is paramount for a good night’s rest. Be sure when selecting a mattress to “test drive”. Visit your local mattress retailer and speak to an expert about what level of comfort serves your personal preferences best.

In terms of selecting bedding, comfort also comes first. Starting with sheets, decide if you prefer the cool, crisp feel of a cotton percale or perhaps a cozier, more buttery and soft feel of a different weave. Sometimes here during Wisconsin winters, flannel also makes sense! Bottom line, natural fibers are the most comfortable. Anything that’s non-wrinkling or of a thread count over 400 most likely has synthetic fibers which don’t stand the test of time and also are not as comfortable for sleeping.

Lighting in your bedroom sanctuary also includes window treatment considerations. Do you want the room to be completely dark or are you open to light filtering options? An overhead light helps, or perhaps even a ceiling fan is preferred for nighttime air flow. Ambient light such as lovely bedside lamps provide reading light as well as a calm aesthetic.

Accent pieces and artwork add a layer of charm and personality which also ties to your color scheme! A charming chair or ottoman adds warmth and character as well as a landing spot for the ever present “stuff”! When focused on color choices, whether soft neutrals or vibrant hues, our main premise is to layer colors along with various textures to create curated, welcoming spaces.

Personal touches, such as family photos and fresh flowers on your nightstand, can also bring a smile in the morning after a good night’s sleep. Fresh water on the nightstand is also always a good idea!

Last but not least, sleeping with your pet can also have a calming affect. Violet is not quite ready for this yet, but when she is, I’m prepared with dog friendly bedding!

At Ann Kottler Home, we have the expertise to not only listen to your vision, but to create the perfect plan to achieve a wonderful sleep sanctuary for the best sleep experience possible.

We’re here to help and look forward to hearing from you!
